Fuerteventura is a renowned surfing paradise, and we all know that. But did you know that it’s a place where foodies can have their share too? The island can show off a great local cuisine, based especially on seafood, fish and the unmissable goat meat and cheese.
You’ve chosen to go for a morning session and you need to refill your energy and start the day with the right foot? Here are our top places for breakfast or brunch on the island, not too far from your favorite surfing spots. (link to the post about best surfing spots for beginners?)
You’ve been surfing on the North-West Coast? In El Cotillo you’ll find Giorgina waiting for you with top-rated croissants and pastries. The bakery has been open only for a month, but it’s already got a large group of faithful clients queuing every morning for its marvelous sweet and savory filled croissants and delicious pastries, all accompanied by the “best coffee in town” according to many reviewers. It opens its doors at 8:30am and it offers a nice space inside, and – coming soon – a beautiful terrazza from where you can look at the ocean and get inspired for your next surfing session.
One of the evergreens in El Cotillo, it is the right place to feel the local spirit. Starting from 8 am, Lolita serves coffee, every kind of tea, fresh squeezed orange juice, croissant, bocadillos and churros with hot chocolate, among other things. Spanish tortilla and Pata Asada (roast pork roll) are the signature dishes according to the reviewers. It has a nice seating area outdoors, right in the middle of the small fishing village, from where you can observe it waking up to life. Reasonable prices and great hospitality from its nice hosts make it a perfect place to start your day.
An independent small bakery. Since its inauguration in 2017, it came a long way: they recently moved to a much bigger place, with many more seats outdoors, where they can receive the dozens of people that every morning go there faithfully to have breakfast or buy bread. Many different sweet and savory options on offer, they are particularly renowned for their great selection of top-quality bread, top-notch sandwiches and delicious cakes.
One of the favorite breakfast spots in Lajares, it offers a nice place to sit down and relax with a laid back atmosphere and views of the Volcano. It’s one of the few places in the village where you do not have to sit right beside the street, which is nice. They’re popular for their home-made cakes (the carrot cake being their signature one) and they even have Argentinian alfajores on offer, apparently just as good as in Buenos Aires. You will find fresh juices and smoothies, as well as excellent quality coffee.
In a quiet “plaza” in the old city, the small bar offers smoothies and fruit juices for all tastes. One of the rare vegan places on the island, it offers a nice selection of vegan burgers, sandwiches, salads and cakes. It has an outdoor seating area under the shade of trees (another rare find on the island!). Lovely owners and amazing food make this place one of the favorite spots in Corralejo for health-conscious eaters.
A favorite among digital nomads for being the perfect away-from-home working spot (great ocean views, strong wi-fi connection), Uga-Uga offers nice food at all times of the day, and it’s a good choice for breakfast too. They often have offers on for the first meal of the day, and the menu can accommodate different tastes with its great variety and nice combos. All served with a smile…and OMG what a view!
A relatively new opening near La Pared beach, it’s already become a favorite. It offers excellent coffee and teas, as well as a good selection of sandwiches, brezels, and granola bowls. They also prepare picnic baskets to take with you at the beach. In a very quiet area, with nice views and atmosphere, it’s the go-to place if you’re surfing on the South-West Coast.
Another great place with amazing views over the ocean, the Rapa Nui Surf Bar has been offering nice food for a long time. They started as a surf school in 2007 and 3 years later they decided to open a bar because “clients were very hungry after a surfing session”. Very appreciated for their coffee, they offer croissants, bocadillos, cakes, salads, poke bowls, smoothies, and so on.
